For one Quinnipiac student and professor, helping students understand how important the midterm elections are, has been a major goal since the start of this summer.

Christina Popik, and professor Courtney Marchese organized an event on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the piazza on the Quinnipiac Mount Carmel campus. They gave a presentation showing students the key issues and the political landscape in this country.

Students were given a pamphlet that broke down each key issue by giving the Democratic and Republican views and gave other statistics based on each generation. This was very useful as it allowed students to really understand what they will be voting for, how to register and where to vote.

"This event was an easy and simple way to inform the students about the upcoming midterm elections. This is important and necessary because as students we represent the future and we should know who we are choosing to give these powerful jobs," said Luke Ahearn, junior and the vice president of the Quinnipiac Student Government Association.

The main topics of the presentation were immigration, healthcare, treatment of minority groups, gun policy, environment, economy, abortion and women's rights. All of these topics are so important in this country and too many people do not know enough information about these topics, which is a huge issue.

"People need to be informed about how much these topics overlap with eachother. I feel we need be more aware of long-term sustainability rather than short-term economic profits. It is important for us as voters to pick the right people with the big picture goal in mind," said Senior economics major, Matt Sorrentino.

An event like this shows students how much their vote really matters and how this generation can make an impact for the future.

Christina Popik and professor Marchese explained the how important it is for students to vote and how this generation can change the idea that younger people's votes don't matter and that it will not change anything. Their point in this presentation is that voting can change so much and maybe not immidiately but in the long run, a difference can be made.
